A Sweater with a Cause

Welcome to the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pink Sweater
We’re Crystal Hammon and Jody DeFord, two Indianapolis style bloggers who met and became instant friends through our mutual love for vintage fashion. One summer day, we decided to collaborate on a project that would do something positive for other women while showcasing the many ways one classic sweater can be worn by multiple women, each with their own unique style identity. And that’s how the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pink Sweater was born.
Our dream is to see this vintage 1960s sweater travel in style from one woman to the next, raising money for the Pink Ribbon Connection on its journey. How does it travel? Every woman who receives it selects the next woman to wear it. In some ways, it’s like a wearable chain letter.
My grandmother Dorothy, and Crystal's mother and best friend (Julie) have weathered breast cancer with dignity and grace, so this project has special significance to us. We hope you’ll lend your financial support to the Pink Ribbon Connection, a local 501(c)(3) that helps underserved women in central Indiana by providing information and resources such as bras, wigs, prostheses and other assistance that supports breast cancer diagnosis, care and recovery. If you give, be sure that you use the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pink Sweater link, or make mention of it on your check.
Watch the journey here or using our hashtag #SisterhoodoftheTravelingPinkSweater on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, or Twitter.

  1. What a wonderful idea! My mother unfortunately succumbed to BC in 1993 after a 5 year battle. My youngest daughter of on 35 years is a metastatic BC patient so any effort to defeat this beast is near and dear to my heart. Thank you for your efforts! Linda
