I scream, you scream!

I scream; you scream; we all scream for ice cream - especially on National Ice Cream Day! Not that I've ever needed an excuse for ice cream.
It's always been my favorite dessert...especially if it has a ribbon of peanut butter running through it...and hot fudge...and maybe some crushed oreos to top it off.
As a kid, I also loved helping my parents make homemade strawberry ice cream in an old school wooden churn. Goat's milk; lots of plump, juicy fresh berries; and plenty of rock salt to get it to the perfect consistency. Delicious!
Unfortunately, though my taste buds scream in delight over the creamiest of frozen treats, my tummy often cries in pain when I indulge.
I can't give it up, though, so I'm always on the lookout for mouthwatering non-dairy alternatives, whether to eat or wear! In fact, over the years I have accumulated three different pair of ice cream shoes, like these kitschy heels from Poetic License, and I can't get enough of this fun "sundae" purse from Betsey Johnson. Hope you're enjoying your own frozen treats, today, too!

Swimming with Sharks

Why won't sharks attack lawyers?... Professional courtesy. Yeah yeah yeah. Blah blah blah. After nearly 18 years of practice, you probably can't tell me a lawyer joke I haven't heard. I don't get offended by them but, for the most part, I don't find them laugh out loud funny, either.
I love the vintage sunbathers diving across this Emily & Finn dress from ModCloth.
I've never really bought in to "lawyer" stereotypes. I deal with other lawyers nearly every day, both as colleagues and adversaries. Of course there are some sharks out there, but that's because some people are just jerks, not because they're lawyers. In general, we are actually a pretty collegial profession.
A simple rope bracelet with a brass anchor clasp is a fun nautical accent. This one is from Kiel James Patrick.
And as shocking as it may be, we don't all wear navy blue suits and sensible black pumps to the office every day either. "...But you don't look like a lawyer!" is a refrain I hear a lot. Guess what? I'm okay with that. Donning the expected "attorney attire" doesn't make my legal counsel any more sound or well informed.
The gold necklace with striped gros grain ribbon was a bargain find from Burlington Coat Factory.
Thankfully, after nearly 18 years of practice, my clients know that, too. In fact, one of the best compliments I've ever received came from a long-time client and senior vice-president of a Fortune 500 company, who told me he appreciates that I always "smile with my clothes" even though I'm so serious about my job.
The nautical striped wedges are from Zulily.
The comment really resonated with me. I do like to smile with my clothes. But don't let the sundress full of vintage sunbathers fool you, I will swim with the sharks whenever I need to!

Patriotic Parade

Happy Independence Day!
I've been celebrating for days with a personal parade of red, white, and blue.
I hope all of my American friends put politics aside and celebrate today, too!
