Not that I have ever actually needed an excuse to wear red (or any color, for that matter), but today I was thinking with, and about, my heart when I chose the scarlet hue...and no, it has nothing to do with the celebration of Saint Valentine next week (even if I did eat nearly an entire box of conversation hearts last night...)

Today is National Go Red for Women Day, an initiative started by the American Heart Association to raise awareness about heart disease in women. The threat is real: nearly 1 in 3 deaths in women each year is caused by heart disease or stroke, more than all cancers combined. I've been blessed with a healthy heart (so far), but friends and family members have been less fortunate, and even those women we admire as the "picture of health" can be at affected. That's why it's important to understand and recognize the risk factors, signs, and symptoms so that you can take charge of your own health and heart. Check out this short but informative article on Fox News (this may or may not be the first time I have ever recommended this particular news outlet) to learn more.
And if, like me, you happen to be wearing red today, did you know you can stop into any Macy's Department Store and save an extra 20% on your purchases as part of their "Wear Red Sale?" My heart goes out to all of yours!
Fashion is what you buy; Style is what you do with it!
